A Baby is born with an innate ability to breastfeed. When all goes well at birth a baby is often very alert and ready to breastfeed within the first hour. Midwives are qualified to assist you begin breastfeeding and support you until discharge from your birth location.
Breastfeeding gives your baby the best start in resisting infection, receiving nourishment and developing the intestinal tract to absorb foods. While breastfeeding is often instinctive for both the mother and baby, your unique circumstances mean that your needs in learning and practising breastfeeding are different to any other woman. As a qualified and highly experienced Midwife and Lactation Consultant I can help guide you through the common problems and challenges that many first-time Mums experience. Successful lactation is more likely when you are able to practise breastfeeding at home with a qualified, caring professional. |
